Video: Smart Test Case Creation with AI in Xray

  • What Xray and Sembi IQ deliver today

Time pressure, unclear requirements, too few resources: these are the biggest challenges in everyday testing – confirmed by the more than 65 participants at our last webinar. AI can take over part of the routine work here. We show what that looks like in practice with Xray and Sembi IQ, directly in Jira.

Xray and Sembi IQ: the essentials in brief

Xray is the test management tool for Jira and covers the entire testing lifecycle – from requirement to bug. Since it runs natively in Jira, no additional tool is needed.

Sembi IQ is Xray's AI extension. It's not a separate product, but a functional layer that you activate and control as needed. Sembi IQ can generate test cases from user stories, convert manual tests into automated scripts, and prioritize tests based on risk.

The AI features are available in the Xray Advanced or Xray Enterprise plan and are currently cloud-only.

    What works in practice

In the webinar, we showcased two use cases live: automatic test case creation directly from a user story, and the intelligent reuse of existing test cases with Rovo. Both scenarios show where AI saves real time in testing today – and where human judgment is still needed.

    Opportunities and limitations

AI speeds up routine work. It generates test cases, structures them, and prioritizes them based on data. What it can't do: compensate for poor requirements. Garbage in, garbage out applies here just as much as anywhere else.

If you work in a regulated industry or have data protection requirements, you should carefully assess its use – the data leaves the Atlassian environment. And AI-generated test cases still need a review process. That's not a vote of distrust, but professional standard practice.

    What's coming next

The Xray roadmap includes, among other things, AI-supported test prioritization, a Rovo Test Plan Summarizer, and the ability to use external documents and Confluence pages as a basis for test case generation. We'll send the link to the roadmap along with the webinar materials.
