Knowledge is one of the key success factors for modern organisations – but also one of the biggest risks if it is not structured and properly managed.
The Road Traffic Office of the Canton of Zurich faced exactly this challenge: preserving tacit knowledge, making information accessible, and improving cross-departmental collaboration in a highly complex and fast-changing environment.
Together with Swarmit and Wissenstransfer GmbH, a central knowledge platform called “Strassipedia” was built based on Atlassian Confluence. The goal was not only to document knowledge, but to make it actively usable in daily work – supported by modern technologies and the targeted use of AI.
The focus was not only on tools, but also on culture and structure:
The implementation quickly delivered tangible benefits: faster onboarding of new employees, improved information findability, and greater transparency across departments. At the same time, challenges emerged – particularly around AI, domain language, and governance.
