Atlassian will end support for its Data Center products in 2029!

Atlassian will discontinue support for its Data Center products (Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket) as of March 28, 2029, creating a clear focus on the cloud.

The Atlassian Cloud platform is continuously being expanded and technically modernized. New features, integrations, and security updates are available in short cycles and can be used without additional maintenance effort. In contrast, operating Data Center involves higher effort for updates, maintenance, and infrastructure. As Atlassian concentrates its innovation and development resources on the Cloud, Data Center will no longer be developed in the same way. With the announced End of Life for Data Center as of March 28, 2029, Atlassian is creating a clear focus: customers will receive a long-term supported platform with the Cloud, which is regularly updated and geared towards future requirements.

Which products are affected?

  • Jira Software Data Center
  • Jira Service Management Data Center
  • Confluence Data Center
  • Bamboo Data Center
  • Crowd Data Center
  • Data Center mobile apps
  • Atlassian Data Center Apps
  • Atlassian Marketplace Apps for Data Center products

Specialty for Bitbucket

Compared to Jira or Confluence, Bitbucket usually contains the actual source code of your products and services – the core of your digital value creation. Changes or loss of this data would have immediate consequences for the security, stability, and competitiveness of your company. Atlassian is aware of this sensitivity, which is why Bitbucket Data Center will continue to be available. Atlassian will provide existing customers with a Bitbucket Hybrid License. This allows Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud to be used in parallel – so you decide how and at what pace the transition takes place.

What changes need to be considered

The most important changes in the next three years are:

  • March 30, 2026 - No sale of new DC licenses to new customers
    • No new Data Center licenses will be sold by Atlassian
    • Apps can only be purchased by existing Data Center customers

    • No existing Data Center licenses will be renewed
    • No more increase or reduction of user licenses (User Tier) possible
    • The Marketplace is closed for new Server Apps. Existing Apps will continue to provide updates
  • March 28, 2029 - Final End-of-Life of the products
    • Jira and Confluence instances will be set to read-only mode
    • Services that will continue to be provided by Atlassian
      • Technical Support
      • Security bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities
      • Connection between Atlassian Data Center and Atlassian Cloud products

Our support

With the announced End of Life of Data Center products, existing customers will no longer have a choice between different models. Instead, the decision is whether to migrate to the Atlassian Cloud or to evaluate alternative tools. As an Atlassian Partner, we support you in this decision-making process with a Cloud Readiness Assessment. Together, we analyze your current system landscape, identify dependencies, and evaluate how a migration to the Cloud can be optimally designed. This provides you with a solid foundation for the next steps.
